ABOUT ACOUSTIC TRIANGLE
Acoustic Triangle is a unique trio of classically-trained jazz musicians with an accessible and engaging approach to live performance. The three musicians seek to blur the perceived boundaries between genres, and their music contains a wide variety of influences - from ancient themes and folk styles through impressionism and the jazz era to post-modernism. Emphasis is put on melody, extended structured composition, spontaneous improvisation and thrilling interaction between the players. Much of the group's repertoire is specially composed by Grammy Award-winning composer Tim Garland and former BBC New Generation Artist Gwilym Simcock, and it also includes music by Henry Purcell, Kenny Wheeler, John Taylor, Bill Evans, Olivier Messiaen and Maurice Ravel.
Individually, their careers have taken them around the world with a diverse range of musicians including Mark Anthony Turnage, John Williams, James Galway, Chick Corea, Pat Metheny, George Shearing, Diana Ross, Cleo Laine, Lee Konitz and Sting. Together they have become one of the most original and respected British ensembles, having recorded four albums and performed in major concert venues and festivals all over the world - always without amplification.
Since its inception in 2000, Acoustic Triangle has undertaken a number of special collaborative projects involving Kenny Wheeler, Gerard Presencer, Liane Carroll, Sir Richard Rodney Bennett, the Sacconi String Quartet, Carolyn Sampson, Royal Northern Sinfonia, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Choir of Westminster Abbey and the King's Singers. The Trio has undertaken numerous radio broadcasts and appeared on-screen in an episode of the long-running television series ‘Lewis’.
The award-winning group is widely acknowledged for its ground-breaking site-specific work, particularly in sacred buildings, and has performed in most of Britain's ancient Cathedrals.
"Adventurous, eclectic, frequently breathtaking... three undisputed masters of the game."
